Pierre Bourdieu
Hi! as you know I'm studying sociology at the Universidad de Chile, and this year I discovered some experts that I didn't studied until know. So today I would like to talk about one in particular that I find very important.
Lately, I have been studying a very interesting sociologist and anthropologist, Pierre Bourdieu. Bourdieu was born in 1930 in France and died in 2002, just 12 years ago so he is very contemporaneous. He is recognized for his critical vision of the society. That's why I would like to talk about him. I I think that is one of the people that most contributed to the sociology in the last years.
His studies were based in the reproduction of the social's hierarchy and one of his most famous works is the book called "Distinction: A social critique of the judgment of taste" were he developed a theory about the social stratification based and how the dominant class stand out by the aesthetic taste.
He also defined terminologies like social capital, cultural capital, field and habitus. This concepts are now very helpful to the sociology because are used in different subfields of the sociology, like the education, politic, economy and art.
So, as you can see, Bourdieu is very important for the sociology and I thought you should know a little about him. If you liked this little description of him you should read more of his work, I recommend "The reproduction" you will find it very interesting!
